Salt for the ocean

I have been out and about a bit this year, me and Rosie,… Melbourne, Sydney , Central Victoria, NSW table lands and over the hills and far away,  ….. Brisbane, Sydney again, Gold Coast .. all separate trips mostly .. It has been quite difficult to engage with an “arts practice” after each time away.. Returning from Central Vic and NSW, I was unwilling to translate visions ..(of self as ‘burning post in a burning landscape’ !) into jagged metal so I reverted to my comfort-zone and made a bit of ‘product’ …(Stainless pendants, kilt-pins and Cake slices etc for the shop here in Byron..).. However, a poem by Lawrence Ferlinghetti, ‘True Confessional”  and some scrap blue painted steel from the trailer re-build, got me going again so there is a bit of ‘work in progress’ going on..

"I am my son, my mother, my father, I am born of myself my own flesh sucked And someone squeezed my heart to make me go through my number I was a wind-up toy someone had dropped wound up into a world already running down" From Lawrence Ferlinghetti's poem 'True Confessional'

“I am my son, my mother, my father,
I am born of myself
my own flesh sucked
And someone squeezed my heart
to make me go
through my number
I was a wind-up toy
someone had dropped wound up
into a world already
running down”
From Lawrence Ferlinghetti’s poem ‘True Confessional’

…also… I have entered a piece in the “Border Art Prize” and am waiting to hear if it is accepted…. (!)

… Been mentoring a young bloke. Connor, through two weeks of “work experience” and was pleasantly surprised to find him so quick to learn and so skilled in his application. … not to mention how consistent his yawns !.. (this a youth thing ?).. he took to forging like cream to pudding and I managed to impart some burns and blisters and sore muscles.. well done Connor !

Dragged ‘kicking and screaming’ into a repaint by the Byron ‘Hammer’ Crew.. we are all well pleased with the resultant fresh new cleaned-up Studio/Gallery/Shop ! Ready for our up coming Exhibition “EXHIBIT A”, (check it out on Facebook), opening on Friday evening 20th June.

Okay ! ..back in da hood !!
