WITNESS

A collection of small works in bronze by Bruce Pringle, in three parts, around the idea of Witnessing …

The “knower” or “awareness” behind every thought, concept and action. .. Our attention seldom abides in it.. rather it is caught in a web of dreams and judgment.. A constant conversation .. and like all conversation, ending in silence.

The first part of these works are abstractions of this.. verging on figurative at times but largely .. symbolic.

Then there is “Parade”.. a series of seemingly light-hearted characters, rolling by on wheels..perhaps reminding us to please pay attention?

The third part is a collection of smaller pieces.. some functional and some wearable, (find in the menu)there to help capture that precious attention in our everyday activities.

The observing is the awareness of the self inquiry. For me it is always the why.. Why make Art?.. Am I describing the world or myself?..Or myself to my Self? and so on and on till I return to the nameless and become again the Knower…. When pouring molten metal, I always say “SoHa!”..

it means “So be it!”…

The conversation is resolved

A series of six small bronze sculptures that are an emotional response to the Perfect Storm of environmental, economic, military, technological and psychological conditions that humanity is experiencing but is too overwhelmed to actually cognise and lament the likely demise of our world/existence/civilisation/culture/epoch.
